CHURCH LEADERSHIP
ELDERS & DEACONS
The overall leadership of the church rests with a team of elders and deacons, while other church members take responsibility for specific aspects of the work. We recognise the importance, whenever possible, of having a team of competent and spiritually qualified elders responsible for the spiritual leadership of the local church, rather than a single minister, so that their various gifts and abilities can complement one another. We believe that this follows a Biblical pattern.
ELDERS
Currently (late-2007) we have three elders - one working as a full-time pastor (salaried - made possible by the freewill donations of members and friends of the church); and two part-time, voluntary. The majority of the preaching and teaching responsibility at Sunday services is shared between them, although we also have visiting preachers from time to time.

Carl Meachem (39) serves full-time as pastor, having previously been an evangelist with the Open Air Mission and assistant pastor at Bethel Evangelical Church, Leicester, following studies at London Bible School. Carl is a family man with three children, and has been pastor at NEC since moving to Newark in 2001. A major focus of his ministry in Newark has been to strengthen and expand evangelistic outreach and teaching of the faith to new Christians. The church's current activities reflect these priorities. |

Graham Davies (69) serves part-time as an elder at NEC. He is an architect, now retired following a long career in both public and private sector practice. He is married, with both children and grandchildren. Graham has many years experience of leadership in Baptist churches, most recently at Eastcome Baptist Church, Stroud. He and his wife moved to Newark in 2005. A lifelong interest in overseas mission is reflected in their current work in the church which includes basic Bible teaching for people with English as a second, or third, language. |

David Murray (64) serves part-time as an elder at NEC. Married with adult children and grandchildren, he and his wife came from Lancashire to Newark in 2003. Professionally he is an international management consultant, now working mostly on standards of business and professional conduct, and in tackling the corruption which impoverishes many countries. He has over forty years experience in evangelism and church leadership among the Christian Brethren, and has served many churches as a visiting evangelistic preacher and Bible teacher. Since 1993 he has had both a speaking and writing ministry (the Faith & Work Project) to Christian business people in many parts of the world. |
DEACONS
The material, financial and legal aspects of the church leadership are in the hands of a dedicated and hard-working team of deacons. They are the Trustees of the registered charity, Newark Evangelical Church Trust
